The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged stronger institutional collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Oyetola gave the assurance on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the ministry’s headquarters.
Congratulating the IGP on his appointment, the minister described it as well deserved and expressed confidence in his leadership capacity.
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police. Your track record of professionalism and service inspires confidence that you will perform excellently in this office and further strengthen the security architecture of our country,” Oyetola stated.
Disu, in his remarks, thanked the minister for the goodwill and reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to collaborate with ministries and agencies whose mandates intersect with national security and economic development.
He said the Force would continue to support strategic sectors, including the maritime domain, through intelligence-led operations and strengthened partnerships.
Discussions between both leaders centred on deepening cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in coordinated operations across coastal and inland waterways.
Oyetola described the visit as timely, noting that inter-agency synergy remains critical to the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda.
“The maritime sector holds enormous promise for economic diversification and job creation. To unlock its full potential, we must guarantee safety and order across our waterways through seamless cooperation among all relevant agencies,” he said.
Both parties agreed to sustain regular strategic dialogue and enhance surveillance, intelligence-sharing and operational coordination within Nigeria’s marine and coastal environments.
