Since his appointment as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence in 2023, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has brought renewed vigour, strategic insight, and decisive action to the country’s security architecture. His tenure has been marked by tangible achievements in counterterrorism, military modernization, and national stability, earning him recognition as a key driver of Nigeria’s ongoing war against insecurity.
Under Dr. Matawalle’s leadership, the Ministry of Defence has recorded significant milestones in safeguarding the nation. From the trenches of the North-East to the creeks of the Niger Delta, his policies have translated into measurable successes.
1. Winning the War Against Insurgency and Banditry
One of Dr. Matawalle’s most notable achievements has been the reinvigoration of counterterrorism operations. Through enhanced coordination among the Army, Air Force, and other security agencies, terrorist strongholds in the North-East have been dismantled, leading to the liberation of communities and a decline in attacks.
