SASSO Poultry Capacity-building Workshop held in Lokoja

SASSO Poultry Workshop in collaboration with the World Bank in Lokojo, Kogi State, Agro Preciso and L-Pres Project was held in Lokoja on 25th March, 2025.

It’s a capacity-building workshop intended to train farmers and stakeholders about the SASSO chicken products that are designed to boost farmers’ fortune and help them adapt to evolving conditions in the sector.

The one-day capacity-building workshop has received participants from all parts of Kogi State and beyond, with over 57 participants in attendance.

Speaking at the event held at the Banquet Hall, Suitorial Hotel, Lokoja on Thursday, March, 2026, Dr Nuruddeen S. Lawal, the MD/CEO of the Agro Preciso said the SASSO Poultry Workshop is meant to bring fortune to farmers as they grapple with various challenges in the sector and SASSO Products are designed to help overcome these challenges

“The Sasso breed is not just another bird. it is an improved, dual-purpose free-range variety that offer a unique solution to the challenges facing our poultry sector.”

He added that, “unlike conventional broilers or layers, the Sasso bird is resilient, thrives in local environment, and provides high-quality meat and eggs. it represents an opportunity to transform poultry farming into a more profitable , sustainable and inclusive enterprise for rural rural farmers.”

The program has received support from the Kogi State Government with the commissioner of the Livestock Development Dr. OLufemi Bolarin appreciating the organizers for bring the program to Kogi State.

“The introduction of and promotion of improved poultry breed such as Sasso chickens present a significant opportunity for enhancing food security , increasing income generation, and improving the livelihoods of our farmers,” the commissioner stated.

Mr. Bolarin added that the Ministry of Livestock Development in Kogi State would continue to support similar initiatives in order to make sure farmers in Kogi generate a stable stream of income via poultry farming.

“The training is therefore not only relevant but also essential , as it equips our farmers, extension agents and stakeholders with modern knowledge and skills in poultry management including proper brooding, feeding, disease control and general husbandry practices,” he added.

Some of the participants interviewed by Daily Review Newspaper were happy to be part of the workshop.

“I am really happy that I have attended the programme. The workshop has opened my eyes to the modern poultry farming that can save me millions in loss and maintenance cost,” said one of the participants who identified himself as Musa Hakeem.

Mr. Welfred van der Krooij who presented a paper at the event on SASSO Value Chain also called on the participant to commit to prudent management as well as embracing the ample opportunities the workshop presented for the participants.

The workshop was rounded up with participants receiving the certificates of attendance.
