Court remands man over alleged forceful land takeover

A Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere, on Friday, remanded a defendant, Olushola Shedrack, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly failing to appear for trial before a Lagos High Court.

The remand order was granted by Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo-Ayoku after the police filed an ex-parte motion seeking the defendant’s detention pending his arraignment before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of Lagos High Court.

Shedrack is to be arraigned before the Lagos State High Court on a charge bordering on the alleged forceful takeover of land located within the state.

Moving the application, Police Counsel, ASP Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the defendant had consistently failed to attend proceedings before the High Court, thereby making him a flight risk.

Joseph urged the court to grant the application and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility pending his arraignment and further proceedings in the case.

After listening to the submissions, the magistrate granted the application and ordered that Shedrack be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending his arraignment on April 14.

The case followed a directive by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Directorate of Public Prosecutions, recommending Shedrack’s arraignment over alleged involvement in forceful takeover of property along Oworonshoki/Gbagada Expressway.

The directive followed petitions dated April 24 and April 25, 2025, written by Mr Femi Ojo and Associates and Mr S.O. Eletu and Co against the defendant and others.
